SpEdJunior is a specialized program designed for children aged 3-8 years who have mild to moderate intellectual deficits or struggle to interact meaningfully with technology. This paper-pencil adaptation comprises a series of 14 books, categorized into three levels: beginner, intermediate, and advanced, with each level further divided into sets Build (A), Learn (B), and Shine (C). Additionally, there are  three levels of cognitive development books and two levels of handwriting books included in the program.

 Curriculum and Objectives:

  • The curriculum focuses on Functional Literacy and Numeracy, complemented by components targeting visual perception and executive functioning to enhance cognitive skills.

  • The handwriting book aids in improving fine motor skills alongside cognitive development.

 Assessment and Implementation:

  • Schools conduct a SpEdProbeJunior assessment to identify each child’s learning needs, guiding the selection of the appropriate book series.

  • Sessions are conducted progressively, starting with Book A, where teachers introduce 2-4 concepts daily, followed by practice and revision. The aim is to gradually foster independence in children, with reduced teacher involvement as they progress through Books B and C.

 Transition to SPEED 2.1 Platform:

  • Children may transition to the SPEED 2.1 platform based on age and computer proficiency, expanding their learning opportunities beyond paper-pencil methods.

 Progress Monitoring:

  • SpedJunior app, is integrated with the SPEED 2.1 platform. Teachers can scan QR codes on worksheets, input scores and behavioral observations, generating progress reports for each child.

 Adaptability for Older Children:

  • While primarily designed for children aged 3-8, SpEdJunior can be utilized for older children, with adjustments to cater to their specific needs. For older children, the focus may shift towards activities of daily living and behavioral outcomes, although those with lesser behavioral difficulties can still benefit from the SpEdJunior Books.

In summary, SpEdJunior offers a structured and tailored approach to early learning, promoting cognitive development alongside functional literacy and numeracy skills for children with diverse learning needs.
